VIENNA Taylor Moton Panthers Jersey , July 31 (Xinhua) -- The mayor of the Austrian city of Salzburg Heinz Schaden on Monday announced he would step down from office following a conviction for his involvement in a finance scandal.
Speaking to the media at the Mirabell Palace, Schaden said he would step down from all of his roles in public office on Sept. 20, with Deputy Mayor Harald Preuner to take over in the interim, ahead of an anticipated new election.
A court on Friday found Schaden guilty of involvement in the scandal that was uncovered in 2012, where about 350 million euros (415 million U.S. dollars) of public funds had been lost on risky speculative trades by numerous officials in his administration.
The mayor was sentenced to three years' imprisonment, with at least one year to be served as a minimum. The sentence is, however, not yet binding and is subject to appeal.
The six other officials involved were likewise found guilty, and were handed preliminary sentences ranging from one to three years.
Despite initially having denied the charges, Schaden said he accepted the consequences, being the most senior official in the city.

During the UKTV People Awards 2006 event, the Jaguar brand took home two awards that can be considered quite prestigious. And it was the Jaguar XK coupe that was responsible for the new awards to be added to the brand?s still growing collection of accolades. The ?Car of the Year? award and the ?Luxury Car of the Year? recognition were what the Jaguar XK coupe received and took home.
It was the people and the television viewers of the United Kingdom who chose which vehicle would be taking home the award. And it took more than 10,000 people to participate in the said voting. They had to choose from sixteen various vehicles, models, and brands. And it looked like the Jaguar XK coupe was the crowd and audience favorite.
And added tension came in when it was Louise Goodman of Formula 1 who did the test driving of all sixteen vehicles which were included in the UKTV channel?s nominees for the mentioned awards. This event was shown over on television and viewers were able to see which vehicle was performing better over the rest. And during the test drives, Goodman informed the public about the various features that each car had to offer. To better facilitate and help the audience decide, the vehicles were further divided into four categories which comprised of sport, family, 4x4, and luxury.
Geoff Cousins is the current managing director of the Jaguar XK8 parts manufacturer in the United Kingdom. Cousins, in behalf of Jaguar, gushes, ?We are delighted that the XK came out top of the bunch in what was an extremely strong and competitive short list. This recognition is especially pleasing as it was voted for by the public. I am also delighted for everyone responsible for the car?s production here in the UK; they should all feel very proud that Jaguar came out top.?
And as on the end of UKTV, its production manager, Loris Vigiani, is proud to say, ?The competition was tough but the performance, shape and sheer beauty of the Jaguar XK coupe obviously won the hearts and minds of the viewing public, beating Volvo, Mercedes, and Maserati to win the ?Luxury? category, as well as Lotus, BMW, and Porsche amongst others to win overall.?
If someone asks you if you know the purpose of homework, you would say that it facilitates learning if you are a teacher and would say that it just wastes your time if you are a student. This is a common scenario but I would have to agree with the thought process of teachers because that is the truth and fact about homework. Homework is something that in addition to giving an academic learning and understanding it also facilitates the development of different soft skills in students. But one common mistake that is usually made while assigning homework is giving the same assignments to every student taking a course or a class. If you think logically, you will figure out that this practice is wrong and completely baseless.
Try answering a simple question if any two students are similar and you will get the answer there itself. No two students are similar or have same strengths or weaknesses and hence obviously they cannot work on the same things to develop certain skill sets. It is common sense. When every student is different from one another then how can they be given the same homework assignments? There should be some differences in the assignments that are given to them so that they can enhance their strengths and minimize their weaknesses. In fact, every student should be given different homework assignment based on their individual strengths and uniqueness.
The teachers first need to analyze the unique quality of every student. Some students are good at written presentation where as some may be good at solving sums. And in addition to these strengths, every student would also have some weaknesses of their own. Thus, students need to analyze all these unique characteristics of every student so that they know the areas in which a particular student is good at and an area in which a particular student is not good. Once teachers make this demarcation and know their students well, they can accordingly assign homework to each one of them.
Some feel that this may become an unfair practice because some students may get simpler assign. |
